Cavan Fianna Fáil Councillor, John Paul Feeley speaking ahead of the
Meeting of Cavan County Council on Monday next (12th September) at which a motion
nominating Sean Gallagher to contest the Presidential Election will be
considered has called on members to support Cavan native, Sean
Gallagher.
‘Sean Gallagher is a native of Ballyhaise and has retained strong
connections with County Cavan and the region. He has been considered
suitable by other counties and I hope the generous spirit of our
county is reflected by my colleagues in the Council Chamber and we too
join in giving Sean Gallagher a nomination to contest the election for
the Office of the President,’ stated Councillor Feeley
John Paul Feeley and Councillor Danny Brady previously put a motion
before the Council to give an indication of support for Mr. Gallagher
and to arrange to convene of a special meeting to consider a formal
motion on the signing of the Presidential Election Order by the
Minister for the Environment. That motion was supported by the Fianna
Fáil Members and the Sinn Fein Members.
‘We had a very robust discussion at the July meeting and afterwards. I
think it is in the best interest of the County Council if we put that
behind us. I hope that this Motion will be considered in the light of
the decision of the Fine Gael members in Mayo, Sligo and Meath to
abstain thus allowing those Councils to nominate Sean Gallagher and
Mary Davis respectively. I believe most members will be generous
enough to allow us proceed to nominate Sean Gallaher, stated Feeley.
Concluding, Councillor Feeley stated that Sean Gallagher is one of our
own, we should support him. It is up to individuals and parties after
that to campaign and vote in the elections at they see fit.
