Council to commence work on footpath from Loreto College to Carrickane – Feeley

Fianna Fail Councillor, John Paul Feeley has confirmed that work will commence on Monday 5th December on a new footpath from the entrance to Loreto College on to the entrance road to the Cavan Sewerage Treatment Work. ‘The need to install footpaths and public lighting in this area has been highlighted for some time. Obviously with the challenging financial situation that we find ourselves in as a Council it has been difficult to secure funds. The Smarter Travel Initiative has provided enough resources of get this section of footpath completed at a cost in excess of €103,000. There will be an additional cost to install lighting.’ ‘This road has a very high level traffic and is not suitable for this in addition to the volume of pedestrians. This investment will improve safety for pedestrians and drivers alike. There is a need for other further investment in this area to extend the footpath and lighting more but that also requires cooperation from local landowners.’ ‘I acknowledge the huge efforts of Cavan County Council to secure the funding, develop plans meeting the environmental sensitivities and investing a great deal of time in working with landowners to progress this project.’ ‘I look forward to working with the Council Staff to continue to progress the provision of footpaths and lighting in the Carrickane area.’ Ends
