Cavan members of the Irish Parkinson’s Association who climbed
Kilimanjaro earlier this year are to be honoured with a Civic
Reception by Cavan County Council on the proposal of Fianna Fáil
Councillor, John Paul Feeley.
Speaking at the November meeting of Cavan County Council the West
Cavan Fianna Fáil Councillor congratulated those who from the County
who has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro earlier this year to raise funds for
the charity.
‘In congratulating Brian Lee, I want to single out Hugh Cormack who
took on the challenge along with his daughter Orla. Normally it is
family member of close friends of those who have been diagnosed with
Parkinson’s who engage in this type of fundraising. Hugh Cormack is
the exception, since his diagnoses a few years ago he has worked
tirelessly as a member of the Irish Parkinson’s Association and is, I
believe the first person with the diagnoses to complete the climb. I
warmly congratulate him in particular.’
Hugh Cormack is a native of County Mayo and came to live in Blacklion
as a Prison Officer in Loughan House and lives there with his wife,
Agnes, two daughters and two sons.
‘From the time Hugh moved to Blacklion, he has played a huge role in
our community, playing for Shannon Gaels, the local GAA Club, then as
an underage coach and involved with the senior team, he has played an
active role in the life of the community at all times. Hugh took on
his most recent challenges with the energy, enthusiasm and courage
that all of us who know him would expect from him and this raised
substantial amounts for the Parkinson’s Association.’
I am delighted that my proposal was seconded by Councillor Sean Smith
and agreed by the County Council. I look forward to the Civic
Reception early in 2012 concluded Councillor Feeley.
